If A, B, C, and D are all positive numbers, is the value of A тАУ B greater than the value of C тАУ D?
(1) A + D = B + C
(2) A and B are each greater in value than either C or D.

(1) A + D = B + C ..... A - B = C - D. Sufficient.
(2) Doesn't tell us anything about C and D or the difference bewteen both sides of the equation. Insufficient.

OK, here:
A = 5, B = 3, D = 4, C = 6 .... pick values so that both sides of the equation are balanced as Statement (1) suggests.
A - B = C - D
-> 5 - 3 = 6 - 4
-> 2 = 2
What numbers did you pick?

Then to balance out the equation, either C has to be negative as well or D has to be larger than C.
