If a*b = c what is the value of b*c?

(1) a = 18 / b^2 --> a*b^2=18 --> (a*b)*b=18 --> c*b=18. Sufficient.

(2) b = 3. Clearly insufficient.

Answer: A.

If statement (1) were: a=-18/b^2 then a*b^2=-18 --> (a*b)*b=-18 --> c*b=-18 (for example: a=-2, b=3). Sufficient.

a*b = c ==> a*b^2 = b*c (multiply by b each side)

1) a = 18/b^2 ==> a*b^2 = 18 => b*c = 18 SUFF

2) Clearly INSUFF

A
