D.

The pronoun "they" is plural; therefore, its antecedent must be plural. That means the answer cannot be A, B, or E. ("Anyone" is singular. "People" is plural.) "Would have anticipated" is not the correct tense, so the answer can't be C. Therefore, the answer must be D.

This is the case that never happened in the past

If past perfect, then Conditional Perfect..
So D is the one which fits this..

This question is basically testing the usage of IF THEN CONSTRUCTION ....Here the then statement of the IF "THEN" construction is in the non underlined portion starting after second comma.." they would have advised owners of Koniko stock to unload all shares immediately"..As we know that THEN can be dropped in such construction thats why we we dont see a THEN here...

As the rule states.............Past Perfect (IF statement) needs would + have + past participle( THEN statement)

Thus the "Would have" in the non underlined portions clearly seeks a PAST PERFECT "HAD" in the IF statement ....Thus the only option we are left with is D....

I don't get this one at all. I get about 95% of SCs correct, and I think the OA is the worst possible choice. "they " later in the sentence is plural, but 'anyone' can be plural as well.

Exactly the sentence correctly testing the IF……THEN construction . The correct form- ' case that never happened' is IF-Pas perfect tense, THEN- Conditional perfect tense..

Thanks
