B.50 more transfer students than 4 yr students are graduating with honors.

let 'a' be the number of 4 year students and 'b' be the number of transfer students; we know that a = b
x be the number of students with honors of 4 yr students and
y be the # of students with honors of transfer students.
we have to determine y/(x+y)

st-1 ==> a = b = 700 and y = 300. no info abt x. Not sufficient
st-2 ==> y = x+50 ==> x+50/(2x+50) not sufficient.

from 1 and 2; y = 300 x = 250 so 300/550
Answer C.

I am not sure how the answer is D of this or may be i am not formulating the eq of the statement 'What fraction of students who graduate with honors are transfer students ?' correctly.

Every student graduating from Burgerville college is either a 4-year student or a transfer student. If Burgerville is graduating an equal number of 4-year students and transfer students, what fraction of the students who graduate with honors are transfer students?

(1) Of the 700 transfer students graduating, 300 are graduating with honors.

(2) Fifty percent more transfer students than 4-year students are graduating with honors.

(1) Of the 700 transfer students graduating, 300 are graduating with honors

It is already given that equal number of 4 year and transfer students are graduating. Since total number of transfer students graduating is 700, it means there are 700 4year students graduating. Therefore, Total number of students graduating = 1400.

It is also given that Transfer students graduating with honors = 300.

Therefore, the fraction of the students who graduate with honors and who are transfer students = 300/1400 = 3/14.

So the answer should be A.

Why is this solution incorrent?

A is incorrect because the question is asking us to calculate

Number of students graduating with honors / Total number of students graduating with honors
