If Jack bought a computer for $1000 more than a generic mode [#permalink] ### Show Tags 30 Sep 2012, 21:26 00:00 Difficulty: (N/A) Question Stats: 100% (01:53) correct 0% (00:00) wrong based on 7 sessions ### HideShow timer Statistics If Jack bought a computer for$1000 more than a generic model, then the price of that computer would have been 8 times the value of the accompanying bonus wireless router, which is 1/4th the price of the generic model. What is the price of the computer?

Here's what I did:
c = $1000 + g c = 8b b = (1/4) g Thanks! Senior Manager Joined: 28 Aug 2006 Posts: 306 Followers: 13 Kudos [?]: 150 [0], given: 0 Re: If Jack bought a computer for$1000 more than a generic mode [#permalink]

What is the price of the computer? I've translated the words into the equations but can't approach it. Please help.. Here's what I did: c =$1000 + g
c = 8b
b = (1/4) g

Thanks!

Continuing your approach and replace b with 1/4g in c= 8b
We get c = 2g
We also have c = 1000 + g
Equating, we get 2g = 1000 + g => g = 1000
Hence, the price of the computer = 2g = $2000 _________________ Intern Joined: 10 Jun 2012 Posts: 14 Followers: 0 Kudos [?]: 38 [0], given: 66 Re: If Jack bought a computer for$1000 more than a generic mode [#permalink]

seems the same but the correct translation is the second one
