If Jim earns x dollars per hour, it will take him 4 hours to earn exactly enough money to purchase a particular jacket. If Tom earns y dollars per hour, it will take him exactly 5 hours to earn enough money to purchase the same jacket. How much does the jacket cost?
Jim earns 4x Tom earns 5y, both of these values buy same jacket, accordingly, 4x=5y we can say that x=5k, y=4k => this means that Tom earns 20% less than Jim.
1) this is not sufficient because this is clear in the question. 2) x + y = $43.75 , 5k+4k=9k , 9k= $43,75, we can find the value of k. Price of a jacket is 4x or 5y than 4x=20k, this is sufficient to solve the problem.
