1. If John wins d dollars in addition to the number of dollars he had originally, he will have t times as much as he had originally. How many dollars did John have originally?
a. d-t^2 = 89
b. Had he gotten (d-20) dollars he would have had (t-2) times as much as he had originally.

2. Machine A can produce x bottles per minute. Machine B can produce twice the amount of machine A at the same time. Machine C can produce twice the amount of machine B at the same time, and so on. If a factory owns 6 such machines, how many bottles can it produce in 15 minutes?
a. Machine A can produce 225 bottles in 45 minutes.
b. Machine D produces 60 bottles more than machine B in 2 minutes.

3.In country X, both the ministry of defense and the ministry of foreign affairs received an identical budget increase in dollars. Which of the two ministries received a greater total budget?
A . The budget of the ministry of defense increase by 7 percent.
B. The budget of the ministry of foreign affairs increased by 8 percent.

1. b? if we call Q to the amount of dollars he had originally, the stem tells us that Q+D=T*Q... so Q=D/(T-1)... a) tells us that D=89+T^2, which is not suf... b)tells us that (D-20)+Q=(T-2)*Q... substracting this equation from Q+D=T*Q, we get Q=10

2. d? we have just one variable, so we are fine with one equation... both A and B gives us info about the velocity of the machines, so suf
