if p and q are positive integers, what is the value of q?

1) q^p-1 =1
2) p=1

the answer is E, but why is not C?

both together, you've got q^1-1 =1 => q^0=1 => q=1

I also get (C)

q^1 = 2

q = 2

Maybe you forgot () as in q^(p-1) ?

Then the answer is indeed (E)

What is statement 1? Is it $$q^(p-1)$$ = 1" or "($$q^p$$) - 1 = 1"?

it should be E!!

Q^0 is defined. Anything has 0 power is always 1.

it's q^p-1=1 without parenthesis ()

You are right q is not defined, q could be 0, it could be 1, -1...
