With the decimal being 12/100, the simplest form is 3/25. If the divisor is a multiple of 25, the remainder must be a multiple of 3. The only number that is so is 9. Answer C.

Given: \frac{T}{B}=8.12=8\frac{12}{100}=8\frac{3}{25}, so the remainder must be a multiple of 3.

Answer: C.

please why the remainder has to be a multiple of 3?
Thanks

Given: \frac{T}{B}=8.12=8\frac{12}{100}=8\frac{3}{25}, so the remainder must be a multiple of 3.

Answer: C.

Thanks

x divided by y yields the remainder of r can always be expressed as: \frac{x}{y}=q+\frac{r}{y} (which is the same as x=qy+r), where q is the quotient and r is the remainder.

\frac{t}{b}=8\frac{3}{25}=8+\frac{3}{25}, so according to the above \frac{r}{b}=\frac{3}{25}, which means that r must be a multiple of 3. Only option C offers answer which is a multiple of 3.

Hope it's clear.

t/b=8 +0.12

Remainder/B=12/100=3/25

25*Remainder=3*B

ony answer choice C is divisible by 3

as Bunuel says - for more practice see the following - http://gmatclub.com/forum/if-x-and-y-are-positive-integers-such-that-x-y-132196.html hehe
