If the drama club and music club are combined, what percent of the combined membership will be male?

a) of the 16 members of the drama club, 15 are male

b) of the 20 members of the music club, 10 are male

Can someone please explain the answer

I am guessing you would have eliminated the options A,B & D quite easily.

It would have been a really straightforward problem if only they had given the no. of people who are common to both clubs.
We cannot assume that there are no people who are members of both the clubs.

Therefore, due to this lack of information, the answer is E. i.e. both together are not sufficient.

Can we argue that since it is writen the " Of the 16 members" it does not mean that there are only 16 members...there can be more but out of 16, 15 are male

I think it means that there are 16 members in the drama club.

initially I had C, i constructed a chart and was able to find that in combination, 25 out of the 36 members will be male.

However, looking at your answers, it seems that I made an assumption that there is no overlap of members, i.e. drama club members belong only to drama club.

I guess its not advised to make this assumption for this question ?
