If the units digit of the three-digit positive integer k is nonzero, what is the tens digit of k?
(1) The tens digit of k + 9 is 3.
(2) The tens digit of k + 4 is 2.

A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

I get A.

Let k= xyz and z<>0
Required y=?

1) k+9 tens digit is 3.
So z can be 1 thru 9. And when you add 9 to any of these.. you need to carry 1 to the tens digit. And so the tens digit (y) has to be 2. y=2. Suff.

2) k+4 tens digit is 2
If z < 6, then tens digit or y=2. If z>5 => we will carry a 1 to the tens digit => y=1. Insuff.
