Line a is defined by the equation y = mx + 4.
Line b is defined the the equation y = px - 2.
(1) The x intercept of line b < 0.
(2) | m | > | p | 1) x intercept of b is = \frac{2}{p}. Hence we get that p is negative. We still do not have any information about m. Insufficient. 2) No useful info. We need the polarity of m and p. Modulus does not give either. Insufficient. 1 & 2 together, we still do not know whether m is positive or negative. Insufficient. Answer is hence E.

Line a is defined by the equation y = mx + 4.
Line b is defined the the equation y = px - 2.
(1) The x intercept of line b < 0. The x-intercept is the value of x for y=0, thus we are given that 2/p<0, which implies that p<0. So, p is not greater than 0. But we know nothing about m. Not sufficient.
(2) | m | > | p |. Clearly insufficient.
(1)+(2) Still m can be positive as well as negative. For example, m=2 and p=-1 (|m|>|p|) OR m=-2 and p=-1 (|m|>|p|). Not sufficient.
Answer: E. Hey Bunuel question is either m or p > 0 S1 clearly gives p<0 so why not A ? Is m value needed here? i'm confused with words either here!

Answer: E. Hey Bunuel question is either m or p > 0 S1 clearly gives p<0 so why not A ? Is m value needed here? i'm confused with words either here! Good question. The question asks is either m or p greater than 0. Now, to have an YES answer we need to know that at least one of them is greater than 0 and to have a NO answer we need to know that neither of them is greater than 0. We know only that p<0. If m is also less than 0, then we'll have that both are negative, thus the answer would be NO but if m is positive then the answer would be YES. Hope it's clear.

Hope it's clear. Ya i got it now Bunuel Thanks. I this case if p>0, we would have not even checked for m straight A would be answer. But since p<0, we gotta check for m>0 or m<0, which leaves us unpredictable. So ans is E. hope so i understood. pls clarify me Bunuel if i'm wrng. Thanks

If from (1) we had that p>0, then this statement would have been sufficient.
