If x is an integer and y= 3x+2, which of the following CANNOT be a divisor of y?

A. 4
B. 5
C. 6
D. 7

Answer: C

For a number to be divisible of 6, it has to be divisible of 2 * 3.

3x would be divisible by 3. However 3x+2 would not be divisible by 3.

Hence the answer.

This is a quasi sequence problem

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26...

All values of y are -1 from the nearest multiple of 3

so 6 is the only multiple of 3

so it is our answer
