As per second statement.. X can also have a value 0. In question its nowhere stated that x is a POSITIVE integer

So answer should be C

That's not correct. Check the highlighted part below.

ZERO:

1. 0 is an integer.

2. 0 is an even integer. An even number is an integer that is "evenly divisible" by 2, i.e., divisible by 2 without a remainder and as zero is evenly divisible by 2 then it must be even.

3. 0 is neither positive nor negative integer (the only one of this kind).

4. 0 is divisible by EVERY integer except 0 itself.

(1) ax is even, where a is an integer.

(2) x^2 - 1 is an odd integer.

Given: x is an Integer
Question : Is x even?

Statement 1: ax is even, where a is an integer

Case 1: a = 2 and x = 1, ax = 2 (even) and x is NOT even
Case 2: a = 1 and x = 2, ax = 2 (even) and x is even
NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: x^2 - 1 is an odd integer

x^2 - 1 = (x+1)*(x-1) = Odd
Since (x+1) and (x-1) are both separated by 2 therefore, either both should be even or both should be odd
but since their product is odd therefore both of them must be odd
i.e. x-1 = odd
i.e. x = even
SUFFICIENT

Answer: Option B
