1) x-y=5
2)xy^2=18

Please explain. This is driving me crazy.

B.

1)
x-y = 5 , xy = -6
x=5+y
(5+y)y = -6

Two solutions: (x,y) = (3,-2) or (2,-3)
Insufficient.

2)
x*y^2 = 18
xy=-6
x*y*y = 18
(-6)*y = 18
y=-3
x=2
Sufficient.

1 will give 2 results for a & b
2 will give single result for a & b.
