Are you sure the question is correct? Usually, when a DS question says 'what is the value of x?', there is a value for x.

1) |x+2| + 2 = y

Notice that since y is a negative number (prime numbers are always positive so z is definitely positive), a mod + 2 must be positive since the minimum value of mod is 0. In no way can the left hand side be negative. Hence, there is no value of x which satisfies this equation.

An equation like this will make more sense: |x+2| - 2 = y since here x will have a value of -2.

2) y > -8
No info about x so not sufficient.

If y=-z where z is a prime number, what is the value of X?

1) |x+2| + 2 = y
|x+2| = -z-2
The right part will always be \geq{0}.
The left part will always be <0. z is prime so -(z+2) will be negative
There is no way those two can equal each other. There is no value of x that fits this condition...

2) y > -8
Not sufficient

The question is flawed
