They use a different entrance exam called the CAT don't they ?
I feel that a good way to try out the IIMs is to actually go an an exchange program for a semester, it will be an exciting experience. However I am not sure what the direct way of getting in would be for Indians overseas.

The IIMs are widely recognized (in Asia) as the some of the top b-schools both in India and the South East Asian region. Located at Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Calcutta, Bangalore, Indore and Kozhikode. If you can get through the CAT, you are a rocket scientist studying management well, not exactly, but you get the idea...
Student demographics - India/SE Asia/Middle East/Africa - dunno the percentages. Need to look at it a little closer.
vsaxena, is this the public management and policy program? why would you want to change from a BFS IT experience to a public management domain? the interviewers would be interested in knowing.
In addition to the gmat scores, i believe they also accept cat/gre scores. A 720 should be a good enough score - its the profile that would worry me. Lots of the applicants to this course actually have experience in the public services and related fields, so i'd imagine that it would be pretty competitive out there.

paddyboy, its a good information for me. Thanks.
Yes, it is public management and policy program. Probably I would need to explore myself before applying in any colleges.. so that I can convince interview takers..

VSaxena,
If you have lived out of India for 12 months on the trot (As of Dec 2007) then you can apply to their PGP program with your GMAT score.
Since, you have more than 7 years work ex, you will also be eligible for their 1 year PGPX program.
From what I've heard, cut-offs for the PGP program are quite high - upwards of 99%ile (roughly 750).
PS: They do not accept GRE scores. Even GMAT comes into the picture only if you satisfy the NRI criteria I mentioned above. Else, CAT is the only option. For the PGPX though, they accept the GMAT.
cheers!!

You will probably have a shot with 750. It is way more competitive to get into some of the Indian academic programs like IIT(engineering), IIM(B-school), AIIMS(medical) than an elite B-school.

That's understandable. Relatively fewer opportunities for a larger population - I am in Australia now and there is absolutely no interest for business schools as getting an MBA is not the only way to go.
Thanks
