Impact of having a poor IR score on GMAT? [#permalink] New post 21 Jul 2013, 23:39
I'm only applying to Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton, so interested in how the admissions committees might view this.

I have a 740, 97th percentile V and 80th percentile Q.

I got a 6 on IR though, which is 67th percentile. How much does IR matter? Will this impact my app negatively? Keep in mind this is only for H/S/W.

Would also appreciate any feedback on Q/V split and overall score.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hey there,

Nice GMAT score :)

Honestly, at this stage don't worry too much about it. Most schools won't be using it this cycle (and probably most won't look too much at it next year either). It's a new section and needs to be vetted a few years in a row before schools can really assess what percentiles really mean. You can't say you're, for example, the 67th percentile when only one year's worth of data is available. After a few years, that could bump up to 83. Schools know this and give new components time.

However, verbal clearly carried you and an 80th percentile in quant coupled with a low-ish IR score will definitely raise some eyebrows. You haven't shared much else about your profile so I'll say this - make sure the rest of your application clearly demonstrates your ability to handle rigorous analytics and academics.

I hope this helps and good job again!

How about an 8? Think that will carry any weight this app cycle?
