Importance of Campus Visits? [#permalink] New post 13 Sep 2011, 10:38
If anyone has any advice on whether it is important, and if so how much, to go do on-campus visits? Is it necessary and worth taking a day off work and worth the commute there and back etc.?

Any useful tips/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Campus visit is a great way to learn more about the school. You can attend a class at some schools, talk to few current students over coffee, etc. You can also write a line or two in your application about your experience during the school visit. It also shows that you have made an effort to know more about the school and its offering. It can add few brownie points to your application.

Good luck!

I totally agree! I mean yeah, it's not like the school will be "oh you visited, you are in!". but for all the reasons above it's great! meeting people, networking and so on.
Plus there's a really important advantage that has nothing at all to do with chances - you get to see for YOURSELF if you like the school. you get a feeling for it. We know that everyone applies to Wharton and would love to get accepted, but maybe when you visit you will realize that it's not for you, or maybe it's better than Harvard. Who knows? only you. and only after you visit.

Campus visits help you in understanding the desired school better. There are certain schools which encourage students for campus visits but they are not that many. If cost and time are issue than you can use online medium to the rescue and contact the school directly with any questions that you may have.
