Importance of clarity of LT goal

I was just reading the other topic posted by the guy who is interested in food processing in india and it made me rethink my career goals essay in terms of how much of an impact my LTgoal has.
The way it stands now, my LT goal is left relatively open. I am from a small business background involved in textiles. We are the middlemen between womens apparel comopanies in US and textile mills in China - we essentially sell fabric at the bulk wholesale level. I have 5 years of small business experience in client/ office management and also experience in working with the mills in China.
I intend to change careers and I cite how my skill set will allow for a transition into strategy consulting in the short term (with a concentration on projects in China). My main desire for consulting is to gain experience in the asian business field so that combined with my mba, it will allow me to focus in on a business venture in the long run.
I make reference to the importance of getting involved in the growing economy of china as I feel it is imperative considering the forecast for china's ecnomy in the next 30years. but the long term goal I dont specifically state aside from the fact that it will involve China in some way shape or form. I was under the impression that showing this direction was good enough...but obviusly now I have some doubts.
My concern is that my short term goal may seem common while my long term goal is not so well defined.
My background is rather different from the majority of the applicant pool and I feel that I emphasize that...however, my goals may seem a bit standard...
How do you guys view this? Pls do share any thoughts you guys may have had in regards to this clarity of goals issue.
much thanks.
