How important is the thank you note that one sends to the interviewer after the interview?
Is it included in the admission file of the prospective even though the interviewer was a second year student.

The thing is I mentioned the wrong school name at one place in the thanks note. I was wondering what kind of impact will this have on my chances?
And how can I improve on this to increase my chances. [ I have a srong appication and my interiewee were great I believe].

If you mentioned the wrong school, this is an automatic ding. Every school says this in their brochure. Standard policy.

Just kidding. :-)

Obviously that's not good, but there's nothing you can do about it now. It really just depends on the interviewer, and if he/she will care. In general, a thank you note is a good idea, but probably doesn't "officially" affect your application. It's more of a "right thing to do" kind of thing.

Be careful about bringing too much attention to this mistake. Sending an official letter to the admissions committee will just draw their attention to it and make things worse.

How can you mention the wrong school name in a thank you note? You should hope that either a) the interview with the student went so well that he/she will overlook your very sloppy mistake or b) that the submission of your review happened before your note arrived and your interviewer simply dismissed it.

The latter it more likely, so it might not hurt you. Still, you should make every effort to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again.
