I was just reading up on the Entry Requirements Section of LSE, with relation to admissions for International Students, and came across this:

"... If your institution uses the cumulative grade point average (GPA) system you should normally have obtained, or expect to obtain, a GPA of at least 3.5 (out of 4) or above. For detailed information about the equivalence of non-UK qualifications, please see Information for international students..."

And from this stems my question: is a CGPA of greater than 3.5 out of 4 an absolute necessity for that particular program or those programs? Does this mean that the Admissions Board will not look further at an application if they see a CGPA of, say, 3.1 or 3.2? Or will they look at other factors in the application (such as GMAT scores, SOPs, achievements, etc.) - inspite of a lower-than-3.5-CGPA - before making a final decision?

I'm not sure whether one factor in a resume dominates all others. If your GPA is slightly below the school's range, then it's still possible to compensate for this in other areas. A very strong GMAT score, a degree from a highly regarded school, or excellent work experience can at least partly make up for this deficiency. It also depends on the program which you apply to; admissions for the MSc Finance, for example, is much more strict than than admissions for the MSc Economic History.

With that said, LSE is one of the premier universities in the world. Many promising people with excellent backgrounds apply every year, and they represent your competition. Another issue to consider is that a master's degree focuses on a specific field. Consequently, admissions expects a developed and specific skill set not necessarily found in an MBA. If this isn't demonstrated in the application, then one's chances become limited.

I can tell you my GPA is less than a 3.0 and that I've been admitted to schools that required a 3.3GPA +
Don't write yourself off! Let them judge you!
