Together, A and B seem sufficient to prove X was not in the top 6. A cannot be true without the assumpution that contribution of X was (67.5-56) = 11.5 %, but there is nothing here to indicate that. B: By itself again does not say enough since the other countries' contributions may have totalled (67.5-4.8)% while the other 153 countries are all less than 4.8% GMAT Instructor Joined: 04 Jul 2006 Posts: 1264 Location: Madrid Followers: 27 Kudos [?]: 252 [0], given: 0 Re: DS: GMAT Prep [#permalink] ### Show Tags 13 Nov 2006, 09:04 Hermione wrote: In a certain year the UN's total expenditures were$1.6bio. (1) 56 percent of the total expenditures was paid by the 5 highest contributing countries, each of which paid more than country X

(2) Country X paid 4.8 percent of the total expenditures

(1) implies that the sixth-highest contributor paid 67.8-56=11.8% of the total expenditures. This would mean the each of the five highest contributors paid at least 11.8% of the total expenditures, so the sum of their shares would be at least 59%. This contradicts (1). Are you sure the question is well-written?

st 1 just says that each of 4 countries contributed more than x and contruibuted a net 56% using this we can not say anything abt X contribution.
It may or may not be amongst top contributors. SO insuff

st2 says x contributed 4.8% of total expenditure. insuff

Combining them also we can not for certain say that X is amongst top 6.
So my pick is E
