In a Mathematics exam. a student scored 30% marks in the first paper, out of a total of 180. How much should he score in second paper out of a total of 150 ,if he is to get an overall average of at least 50% ?

A. 70%
B. 74%
C. 76%
D. 80%
E. 82%

An overall average of at least 50% is \(\frac{( 180 + 150 )}{2} = 165\)

Score in paper I is \(\frac{3}{10}*180 = 54\)

So he must score 165 - 54 = 111 in paper II out of 150

So his % score must be \(\frac{111}{150}*100\) = 74 %, Answer must be (B)
