In the second Q, I belive "making" is perfectly correct, while "which" could be fine, its not very clear what that "which" is refering to, unless we treat the first part as a "rising prices". Not sure we can do it in this sentence. If anyone knows for sure, please explain.

Dear New1975,
Could you please post one question per thread. Posting one question per
thread helps to discuss the question in detail and avoids confusion. Moreover,
could you provide and appropriate heading such as "SC-Mary Baker Eddy".
Quote: In a period of time when women typically have had a narrow range of choices, Mary Baker Eddy became a distinguished writer and the founder, architect, and builder of a growing church. (A) In a period of time when women typically have (B) During a time in which typically women have (C) Typically, during a time when women (D) At a time when women typically (E) Typically in a time in which women
A: тАЬIn a period of time whenтАЭ << Unidiomatic C: тАЬTypicallyтАЭ modifies time instead of women. D: points to a specific time instead of a period of time. E: unidiomatic Ans: B Quote: As the price of gasoline rises, which makes substituting alcohol distilled from cereal grain attractive, the prices of bread and livestock feed are sure to increase. (A) which makes substituting alcohol distilled from cereal grain attractive (B) which makes substituting the distillation of alcohol from cereal grain attractive (C) which makes distilling alcohol from cereal grain an attractive substitute (D) making an attractive substitution of alcohol distilled from cereal grain (E) making alcohol distilled from cereal grain an attractive substitute
A, B, C: A non-restrictive pronoun canтАЩt refer to an ideas stated in the previous clause.
D: unidiomatic does this choice have any other error[s]
Ans: E

D and E
Agree with Kpadma for new1975 to please separate questions in different threads, it would be appreciated.
1- D "at a time" is perfectly fine to refer to "a span of time"/"period of time"
B is wrong to me as "typically" should have been placed after women to properly infer that it was the "narrow range of choices" which was typical and not the women themselves

Kpadma,
For me its not so much an issue of During vs At, its an issue of HAVE HAD vs HAD. Why is have had prefered here over had?

Firstly sorry guys for posting the 2 SCs in one thread. I will try and post one per one thread.
D & E are the correct answers. Just an observation that Paul always gets it right.
I had got these wrong when I solved and hence had posted these questions in the forum.
Thanks guys.
