(A) the protein in rice is higher quality than that in (B) rice has protein of higher quality than that in (C) the protein in rice is higher in quality than it is in (D) rice protein is higher in quality than it is in (E) rice has a protein higher in quality than
A, C and D have the wrong modifier, B is also wrong b/c you are compared "rice" to "wheat", i.e., rice has better protein than wheat. Not rice has better protein than "that" in wheat.

In addition to having more protein - than wheat does, the protein in rice is higher quality than that in wheat, with more of the amino acids essential to the human diet. Explanation: Here the phrase ‘ In addition to’ modifies ' rice' so, we can do away with options A, C & D. -------------------------------- ( A) the protein in rice is higher quality than that in --–> Discard it. Reason explained above. ( B) rice has protein of higher quality than that in ---> Correct. ( C) the protein in rice is higher in quality than it is in --–> Discard it. Reason explained above. ( D) rice protein is higher in quality than it is in --–> Discard it. Reason explained above. ( E) rice has a protein higher in quality than ---> Compares a protein with wheat, which is not the intended meaning of the original sentence. The original sentence intends to compare protein in rice with protein in wheat. Also, use of 'a' before 'protein' again changes the original meaning of the sentence. So, discard it. -------------------------------- My choice is option B. Hope that helps. Regards, Technext

This seems to be a comparison question with the general format: in addition to x, y has z where the traits of y (i.e., x and z) are being elucidated. Consequently, it makes no sense to say that the protein in rice has more protein. It should say rice has more protein and rice has protein of higher quality. Toward the end of the sentence, it should compare the protein of rice with THAT IN wheat since you need to compare like elements or objects. It does not make sense to compare rice protein with wheat.

choices A,c and D are out since the phrase "In addition to having more protein " modifies rice is required instead of the proteitn
between option B and E the ans choice B is the best since the option B only correct compares rice's protien with wheat's protien
so my choice is B

It was between b and e. I wrongly picked e. I need to spend more time on each question. The a in answer e changes what it is compared to.

This is a standard GMAT question - In addition to having more protein -than wheat does, the protein in rice is higher quality than that in wheat, with more of the amino acids essential to the human diet. comparison is b/w WHEAT and the thing in red! so eliminate- A,C,D because RICE has to be compared with Wheat not the PROTEIN OR RICE PROTEIN! B/W B AND E eliminate E because -"rice has a protein higher in quality than wheatincorrect comparison ..!

E. Eliminate a and c as protien is not being modified but rice rice protien does not compare well with wheat parallelism issue with b & d both e is concise and brings out the meaning well Posted from my mobile device

not D because, "rice protein " is a single word ....how "rice protein" can be available in wheat?? so, compare protein in rice with protein in wheat !

IMO B @ sleekmover i think E is wrong because of wrong comparison between protein and wheat rather than comparing protein in rice with protein(or use that) in wheat ..... E states that rice has a protein higher in quality than wheat thus changes the meaning. correct me if i am wrong.

In addition to having more protein than wheat does, the protein in rice is higher quality than that in wheat, with more of the amino acids essential to the human diet.
(A) the protein in rice is higher quality than that in (B) rice has protein of higher quality than that in (C) the protein in rice is higher in quality than it is in (D) rice protein is higher in quality than it is in (E) rice has a protein higher in quality than
Comparing Rice to Wheat here. hence, A,C,D out B,E left. E says a protein. That is wrong. moreover, E compares protein in rice to wheat.

Needs to modify rice not the protein, eliminate a and c. (A) the protein in rice is higher quality than that in (B) rice has protein of higher quality than that in (C) the protein in rice is higher in quality than it is in (D) rice protein is higher in quality than it is in (E) rice has a protein higher in quality than The sentence means to say that rice has higher quality protein than that in wheat. So E and D are out. Picked B
