"discovery of" is in parallel with "documentation of" . So we can remove A and B for using "documenting"
"discovering" throws out E .
Between C and D , clearly D sounds better . Also "with" in C sounds redundant.
So its D.

I also think the answer is D.

Lakey's is required so A, B and C are out.

E is out cuz the sentence isn't ||. (discovering and documentation are not || )

Straight D

We're referring to Leaky's contributions, so D/E

and D maintains parallelism.......

(B) ...her discovery and documenting? No.
(C) ...her discovery of and documentation of? Possible, keep
(D) ...her discovery of and her painstaking documentation of? Possible, keep
(E) ...her discovering and documentation of? No.

Between C and D.
