A. in which thin layers of extra paper are used to decrease the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, thereby slowing
B. in which they use thin layers of extra paper in decreasing the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, which slows
C. that uses thin layers of extra paper to decrease the amount of oxygen when it enters the cigarette, thereby slowing
D. for which thin layers of extra paper are used to decrease the amount of oxygen that enters the cigarette, and thereby slowing
E. using thin layers of extra paper in decreasing the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, which slows

so is "in which" okay?

B. in which they use thin layers of extra paper in decreasing the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, which slows

C. that uses thin layers of extra paper to decrease the amount of oxygen when it enters the cigarette, thereby slowing

D. for which thin layers of extra paper are used to decrease the amount of oxygen that enters the cigarette, and thereby slowing

A. in which thin layers of extra paper are used to decrease the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, thereby slowing
B. in which they use thin layers of extra paper in decreasing the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, which slows – who “they”?
C. that uses thin layers of extra paper to decrease the amount of oxygen when it enters the cigarette, thereby slowing
D. for which thin layers of extra paper are used to decrease the amount of oxygen that enters the cigarette, and thereby slowing - "for which" whom?
E. using thin layers of extra paper in decreasing the amount of oxygen entering the cigarette, which slows – “marketing …using thin”??

This is how I thought.
B, D & E - Eliminate

Left with A & C

I did like C but A was equally good.
But we have to choose the best answer. In this case it is A

Here is how -
Use of "in which" the cigarette does not use layers of thin paper BUT layers of thin paper are part of a cigarette. Hence we can eliminate C

Hence A should be the answer.
