In an examination, a minimum of marks is to be scored in each 6 subjects to pass. How many ways can a student fail.

(a) 6
(b) 21
(c) 63
(d) 84
(e) 72

(C) 63,

Two possible outcomes for each test => total of 2^6 outcomes.
One is a pass outcome, the remaining are the failure cases.
Thus failure ways = 64 - 1 = 63.
