In an office, 40 percent of the workers have at least 5 years of service, and a total of 16 workers have at least 10 years of service. If 90 percent of the workers have fewer than 10 years of service, how many of the workers have at least 5 but fewer than 10 years of service?

No of workers who have atleast 10 years of exp = 16
% of workers who have less than 10 years = 90%

So, the total number of workers is 10%(x)= 16
x= 160

40%(160) = 64

Then subtract 16 from 64.

Agree with 48. Used a diagram:

---- <10 ---- >10 ---- Total

<5 ---- 96 ---- N/A ---- 96

>5 ---- 48 ---- 16 ---- 64

Total - 144 ---- 16 ---- 160

Got 48 as well.

0.4T = workers >=5 years so
0.6T = worker <5 years

0.4T = (6-9) years + (>10 years)

From the stem >10 years = 16

So (6-9) years = 0.4T - 16
Also from the stem
0.9T = (6-9) years + <5 years
0.9T = 0.4T-16 + 0.6T
T = 160

0.4 * 160 = (6-9) years + 16
Hence
(6-9) years = 64-16 = 48

48. Exactly the same solution as Geethu's.
Thats the easiest way to do this.
