In blackjack, each card is worth a certain amount of points. Each numbered card is worth its numerical value, so for example a 7 is worth 7 points. Jacks, queens, and kings are all worth 10 points each, and aces are worth 1 point or 11 points at any time. Blackjack is played with a deck consisting of 13 cards (one of each of the numbers 2-10, one jack, one queen, one king, and one of ace) in each of four suits: clubs, diamonds, hearts, and spades. The player whose hand equals or comes closes to equalling 21 wins. A player may be dealt as many cards as he or she chooses, but any combination of cards summing to a number greater than 21 automatically loses.

If the odds against a certain event’s occurring are x/y, this means that oddsmakers consider there to be x scenarios in which the event does not occur and y scenarios in which it does. If the odds against a certain event are 13/10, what is the approximate probability that the event does happen, expressed as a percent?

The probability we are looking for is\frac{x}{totCases}=\frac{x}{x+y}=\frac{10}{23} This is a bit less than 50% so 43% is correct B.

This is a funny question! I spend a couple of minutes reading about the blackjack and then the question in completely unrelated... Are you sure this is the original text? _________________
