C - is correct
" certain invertebrates and fish convert( plural is emphasized )" needs "their ".

In cold-water habitats, certain invertebrates and fish convert starches into complex carbohydrates called glycerols, in effect manufacturing its own antifreeze.

subject is invertebrates and fish (plural) so its to refer them is incorrect
A,B,E out

D using 'So that they' distort meaning...it seems that invertebrates and fish intentionally making their own antifreeze

so correct answer is C

"their" in (C) correctly restates the veterbrates and fish.
