In experiments in which certain kinds of bacteria were placed in a generous supply of nutrients, the populations of bacteria grew rapidly, and genetic mutations occurred at random in the populations. These experiments show that all genetic mutation is random.
Which one of the following, if true, enables the conclusion to be properly drawn?
(A) Either all genetic mutations are random or none are random.
(B) The bacteria tested in the experiments were of extremely common forms.
(C) If all genetic mutations in bacteria are random, then all genetic mutations in every other life form are random also.
(D) The kind of environment in which genetic mutation takes place has no effect on the way genetic mutation occurs.
(E) The nutrients used were the same as those that nourish the bacteria in nature.

For me Only A and C were contenders.

b) common form or specific form, whatever, doesn't help in concluding that genetic mutations in general are random.
d) This doesn't help in concluding that genetic mutations in general are random.
e) Nutrients might be same..but availability is still an issue..

Out of A and C
c) "All genetic mutations" spoiled the game.

A looks Ok.

If one species is random, all others will be..!!

A states that all the genetic mutations can be either random or non-random. So we have only two options here.
So,if the mutation of a species X is random/non-random, then mutations of all the other species will be random/non-random.

I hope it makes some sense..!!

The contenders are A and C.
Not C, because for the statement "If all genetic mutations in bacteria," you need to test all mutations and possibly all bacteria, but the experiment had the limited scope.

Good question.
