Answer is 'A'

In most industries the rising cost of support services actually passes a greater financial burden to customers; in the legal profession, for example, a current climb in the cost of court reporting has forced many attorneys to raise their hourly rates.
1. has forced many attorneys to raise their hourly rates.
2. has made many attorneys raise their hourly rates.
3. has meant that many attorneys are being forced to raise their hourly rates.
4. is forcing many attorneys to raise their hourly rates.
5. is meaning that many attorneys are raising their hourly rates by force.

As OA is 'D' but 'A' seems to be more meaningfully correct.

The current climb ........is forcing ....X to do Y
The current climb.......has forced...X to do Y ("the rising cost" we don't know specified time so present perfect tense 'has forced')

First, the same question can be found here: in-most-industries-the-rising-cost-of-support-services-90742.html
OA is different here.

Second, my reasoning for getting the answer:
It is the current climb which is making attorneys to raise their hourly rates. Since the hourly rates are rising, it is better to use Present perfect tense here. So, A is the correct answer IMO.

I gave a test Gmat verbal test today. Even i chose A, but they showed the answer as D. So, thought of asking. Are the answers in the mock tests wrong on a regular basis , bcoz i found another one wrong. In the options, it showed C as the answer while in explanation, E was declared as the correct option.
