E is my FA.

D has a passive tone apart from "should" which is not needed.

My pick would be D. Point taken its a passive voice, Still, I prefer D.

I am somehow not very much convinced on the sentence formation "to acquire certain characteristics in their steer" Is it right ?

Need some clarification. Thanks

E is fine to me. Active voice is certainly prefered over passive one and E is also more concise.

The OA is D - reason - active voice is preferred over the passive voice.

I think you meant the OA is E. I remember this question from ETS paper tests and I think the answer is E
