In the diagram below, there is a circle with center B. Points A and C lie on the circumference. Arc AB is a semicircle. BC is a radius and equal to 1. Find the area of the shaded region.

Area of the outer circle = pi (since, radius = 1)

ABC without the semicircle containing Arc AB is 1/4th of the bigger circle So, it's value = Pi/4

Inner circle with arc AB has a radius of 1/2. So, it's area = pi/8

Shaded area = pi - (pi/4 + pi/8) = 5 * pi / 8
