In the health conscious city of Vaudeville, people use two [#permalink]

Question Stats:
100% (01:57) correct
0% (00:00) wrong based on 4 sessions
In the health conscious city of Vaudeville, people use two main types of transport: bicycles and walking. Biking slowly, a person can reach most destinations in 20-40 minutes while burning around 250-400 calories. Biking quickly to the same destination takes about 10 to 20 minutes and burns the same number of calories. Walking slowly to those destinations takes 40 to 80 minutes while walking quickly takes 30 to 60 minutes. Both walking activities burn the same number of calories as biking. Also, it was found that the longer a person spends exercising the better it is for the heart. If the statements above are correct, they most strongly support which of the following? A. Biking promotes the development of muscles more than walking does, regardless of the time spent on both types of exercise. B. On average, fast walking is healthier than slow biking when going the same distance even though both activities burn the same number of calories. C. Walking fast has more extra benefits, apart from calorie burning, than slower walking. D. Biking for longer but at a slower pace burns more calories than biking for shorter periods of time at a faster pace over the same distance. E. The promotion of better health must include exercise that is also good for the heart.

D?
A. Biking promotes the development of muscles more than walking does, regardless of the time spent on both types of exercise. out of scope - no discussion about muscle development B. On average, fast walking is healthier than slow biking when going the same distance even though both activities burn the same number of calories. Wrong comparison and possibly opposite to what text says. If anything, slow biking could be healthier than fast walking. C. Walking fast has more extra benefits, apart from calorie burning, than slower walking. Out of scope, because we're not concerned about OTHER BENEFITS. D. Biking for longer but at a slower pace burns more calories than biking for shorter periods of time at a faster pace over the same distance. Right: comparing same type of action with same properties (distance) + last premise. E. The promotion of better health must include exercise that is also good for the heart. "MUST" - extreme word; not supported by premise

IMO is B i am editing my previous post........srry for wrong post. Walking faster takes max 60 min and biking slowly takes max 40 min...so when a person walks faster compared to biking slowly he is doing more exercise and is less likely to have heart problem.

I think its B because the argument says Also, it was found that the longer a person spends exercising the better it is for the heart.A is wrong. Muscles is as out of scope as little green men from mars. C is wrong, because the argument says slower walking could be more beneficial. D is wrong as both takes same no of calories. E is out of scope as promoting health is not ever mentioned or given any significance in the argument.
