Given that the amounts allocated to household expenses (E), food (F), and miscellaneous items (M) are in the ratio 5x:2x:1x and the total amount allocated to these three categories is $1,800, thus 5x+2x+x=1,800 --> x=225 --> F=2x=$450.

Answer: D.

Total of 3 components is 8 parts
Food is 2 parts
Amount on Food is 2/8 i.e 1/4 of the total i.e 1800/4 = 450.

5x:2x:x

total 8x = 1800

x= 225

for food 2x so 2(225) = 450
