(a) looks ok
(b) "over if" is awkward
(c) "carry on and be" is awkward
(d) "is to be" implies that the dispute is happening now
(e) "concerning if" is awkward

2. Dispute over is correct usage

I would also vote for A.

In regards to last post, C is too wordy: "...was going to carry on and be the fourth caliph..."

I vote for A.

Another thing to notice was that except A, none of the choices have a comma at the end, without that all the choices except A don't make sense.

Punctuation is also something to look for in sentence correction.

(C) over whether Ali, the Prophet Muhammad's
son-in-law, was going to carry on and be
the fourth caliph, Muhammad's successor

C lost the control over ||ism while stating ....was going to carry on and be.....shud have been ........was going to carry on and to be.....

A fits in best
