In the XY plane , a circle with centre on origin has point r,s on the circle.
What is the value of r^2 +s^2?

2) the point V2, (-)V2 lies on the circle

(r,s) is on the circle so r2+s2= radius2 (coz the circle has center on origin)

2) (√2, -√2) is on the circle means (√2)^2+(-√2)^2= Radius ^ 2= r2 +s2

Each statement gives us a radius, which is sufficient to get r^2+s^2

"points" r,s which to me means 2 different points r and s

You can't square a point. We use capital letters to symbolize a point.
I think r,s means (r,s).
2 gives you a point which is already on the circle.
