You're right- answer is B.
Why can't we use "But" here? I thought the usage of but would indicate a contrast between the good and bad effects...

By PoE ... I think the correct answer is B This is a wrong assumption. Using 'But' is not wrong. The issue lies elsewhere I guess by now you would have narrowed it down to between b and e. This is wrong. It is not the just the chemical pollutants that have gone virtually unregulated but rather 'introducing some 100,000 dangerous chemical pollutants'. This is what makes e wrong. Why should c not be right: I think they cannot refer to anything else other than Industri...and..... also "introduced" seems to be parallel!!!
Is there some other problem with C - redundancey could be one "have"..but I cant rule that out based on this???
