If k is not equal to 0,1,-1, is \(\frac{1}{k} > 0\)?

1. \(\frac{1}{(k-1)}>0\)

2. \(\frac{1}{(k+1)}>0\)

Sol:

Q: Is \(k>0\)?

1.
\(k-1>0\)

\(k>1\)

Sufficient.

2.
\(k+1>0\)

\(k>-1\)

k can be -0.8
Or
k can be 1.8

Not Sufficient.

Ans: "A"

1. Sufficient

k-1 > 0 => k>1

=> 1/k >0

2. Not sufficient

k+1 >0
k>-1

if k = -0.5 then 1/k is not greater than 0

if k = 2 then 1/k is greater than 0

Answer is A.
