Inputs and comments on my strategy for 680+ [#permalink] New post 24 May 2012, 08:12
Hello,
First of all, Thanks for an awesome forum.

I have just embarked on my GMAT-journey and targeting 680+ by January 2012 when I plan to take my test.
However, since I will need to cover up for some missed exams and extra courses this fall, I will not be able to conduct much GMAT studies next semester.

I have therefore allocated 3 weeks this summer for full studies, as well part-time studies for the following months which are June to September.

My goal is 680+ and to be quite stable around that number on my sample-tests before. I need to be guaranteed a 650+ result the day I take the test. A marginal of 30 is therefor necessary to cover up for unforeseen stress-related issues.

Biggest challenges are quantitative related but as a non-native English, sentences correction will also be a huge challenge.

This is my plan for now, please read it through and comment, come with suggestions etc.

This is how I've allocated my study-time:
3 full time weeks, started last Monday and ending in the beginning of June. Part-time summer studies ending in September. Almost full-time studies from end of December to the middle of January.

1. Done diagnostic tests but not every part.
2. 3 weeks in May and June.
Focus at least two of my full-time weeks on quantitative.

3. Focus last week on grammar correction

4. June - September Part-time studies during the rest of summer
Focus on various weaknesses and allocate study-time on parts, based on that.
Also, start with the other parts.

5. GMAT BREAK from September to December, or very limited time of studying, only reviewing possible.
5. Last month of preparation
Focus on weaknesses, repetition, exhaust as many tests as I can.

I don't think stretching your prep for 6+ months is a good idea . You'll tend to forget a lot of stuff that you do earlier . Ideally try to limit your prep time to about 3/4 months .

Also , try to do both quant and verbal parallely . For instance , do 4 days of quant and 3 days of verbal each week . It's important to practice each question type regularly without an interval of 2/3 weeks .

I think you should take a practice test before you begin your prep . This practice test will give you a good idea of your strengths and weaknesses . Based on the results of the tests , we can offer you more advice about the specific strategy you should adopt for your prep.

Good luck !

jonatande,
Jumping around is not ideal but it can be ok - as long as you have a solid month of preparing before you take the exam in June. Right now, it would just be spent getting yourself familiar with the questions and then later on you can focus on attack strategies and improving time efficiency.

I agree with the above... condense it into 3 months. After 6 months you will be forgetting stuff for sure
