1. Inscribed with the names of each of the thouands of americans who lost their lives in the war, Maya lin's vietnam veterans' memorial in DC has become a favourite stop for visitors to the nation's capital.
A>
- inconsistent with "each" in the first part of the sentence.
B> that lost their lives during the war
C> who lost his life in the war - incorrect gender-wise?
D> whose life the war took - passive
E> from whom the war took a life - wordy

B correct use of "their".

2. Any of the stock holders who disapproves of the management-endorsed slate of candidates may offer an alternative slate under procedures established by the SEC.
A>
B> who disapprove
C> that are disapproving
D> that do not approve
E> Who are not in approval

I think it is B, if we consider the phrase "stock holders who disapprove of the management-endorsed slate of candidates" together.

Please give you explanations.

1. C Each is singular

2. B Any is singular or plural depending on the word it refers to, in this case its stockholders .

Thanks for all the inputs. The answers are
1.A
2.B
I understand why 2 should be B. But why is 1 A? Can someone explain? Aren't we talking about "each of the thouands of americans" ? and doesn't that mean it should have asingular verb?
Thanks
