Hey guys and girls.

I thought I'd kick off a thread for us wait-listers. I am sure we are all pretty bummed at this point. So let's get together and support each other through the torment.

Can we please list our profiles so that we get to know each other?

I will start. F/30/US/commerical banking/Fonty - choice of campus

Thanks!

JZ

Guys, I was re-visiting this thread and I remembered how disappointed I was when I was notified that I was wait-listed in May. But guess what? I made it! So to all the waitlisters out there, hang in there and have faith!!! :-)

HankScorpio, JZHANG and Suker, you guys are rockstars! Completely agree with your thoughts.

I came across the following link from a "successful" INSEAD waitlister:

http://marksmatthews.mbablogs.businessw ... kuo7ob3a4z

It's clear that there's no formula to come off this list; the best one could do is to remain sane and explore other possibilities.

Cheers, SH

Exact date appears to be 25th June. Just checked with one of the admits.

The only thing I have been told you can really do to get off the wait-list (other than hope for ppl to drop out, like JZ says) is to notify the adcom if you are now a very different candidate because you've added several things to your profile. E.g. are now now the global lead for xyz in your company? are you now an expat in another country? Have you mastered a fifth language? It has to be something that ratchets us up from a "good enough" to a "much better". In other words, if you were putting off any big moves in your career or life b/c of insead, take them. They might just be the thing that makes the adcom realize you're still going places. And even if you don't make it in, at least you don't feel like you've waited 6 months for insead to tell you that you're rejected.

As for me, I'll probably start making my moves in early July. Sept 3 (R2 final decision) is way too far into the future for me. Moves might include taking on more responsibilities at work and applying to other b-schools, while staying on the insead waitlist. Should I apply again to insead, I want to at least be able to put in my reapplication essay that I have more to bring to the table than when I applied last time.

You know if I would collate all the details as posted here, most of our GMAT scores are in the 670-710 levels. Maybe GMAT was one of the criteria. Or at least for me, it seems like it.

If I were to correlate anything, I would do a bit of analysis on the favoured countries:

For those of you who are interested in the admitted students so far here a short overview:

Admitted Students: 183
Fonty Campus male: 70
Fonty Campus female: 36
Singapore Campus male: 54
Singapore Campus female: 23

Indian: 24
American: 18
French: 15
Lebanese: 14
British: 12
Canadian: 11
German: 11
Chinese: 10
Russian: 7
Japanese: 4

Indians as you know have an extremely high bar to meet re everything. It's a country that has their lifeblood economy grounded in other countries (i.e. outsourcing and export/import). When I think of the other favoured nations, countries like US and Canada are countries of immigrants, so they are likely to have a strong international outlook. For the French, INSEAD probably attracts the cream of the cream of the crop, so no surprise. If they are holding back any major slots, it would be for places like Africa or South America. The low # of Japanese doesn't surprise me... they are a fairly closed country ... academically pretty solid, but not as strong for international outlook. Also, promotions are slow and steady, not up or out. So the GMAT may be an issue for you, but it depends on how you think you are relative to others in the leadership, ability to contribute, and international outlook areas relative to others. And that's the key, relative to others.

One last thing to consider is how they perceived your ability to be at the top. That's one of the reference questions - do you see this person being part of senior management one day. The adcom needs to see that you'll make VP or higher one day, or be making tons of money at your own company that you have a good shot at being successful at.

I think LBS tends to attract similar crowd of applicants in comparison to INSEAD. What do you think? Also, do you think Judge/Said is less competve than INSEAD? To be honest, I don't know much about Judge or Said so I guess I have to read up on them.

Looks like we're reaching the same shortlist for plan B. LBS and INSEAD are neck and neck in terms of the top non-US schools in the world. IMD is always debated whether they fit into the same category, but I think it's about where you are interested in going in the world. As for Judge/Said, it's a rung below LBS/INSEAD, and I would hazard a guess that if you're in this list of waitlisters, you are pretty competitive for Oxbridge. So, for now, my b-school plan B is to apply for Sept 2011 intakes, with LBS/INSEAD as having a good chance to get in if I up my game and upgrade my profile, and Judge/Said being more the safety schools.

Just got the call 20 min ago. I'm in! Congrats to everyone that made it past the WL and thanks for the support from all of you that kept checking in with me to see if I was in yet.

So back to my earlier post looks like it was scenario 1 - we were considered with the R3 admits. Just wanted to leave this note here for the guys and gals next round.

Re: INSEAD - Dec '11 waitlist [#permalink] New post 28 May 2010, 09:51
Hey guys. It's good to hear from you. I am sorry that we are wait-listed.

I found this article online. http://www.accepted.com/chat/transcript ... nsead.aspx

It's an interview with INSEAD's admissions regarding its wait-list. The good news is that per the interview, INSEAD keeps a relatively short list but the bad news is the wait-list is maintained in order to keep the right balance of diversity in its student body. So in other words, we are good enough to be admitted but compared to other admits in R1, we are not quite as good... (in the eyes of the admin officers).

So the good news is we are still in the game but the bad news is that there is no way to determine how likely it is for us to get off of the WL.

So based on the information gathered from the Jan intake forum, I've came up with the following numbers:

48 people invited to interview
17 admitted (out of which 5 are women)
8 WLed (out of which 2 are women)

plus 4 more Chinese admits
and 2 more admits from bw

incorporating these 6 admits -- total 54 interviews, 23 admitted and 8 wled

But again, this is only based on the rough data that I gathered and so its probably not completely accurate.

So what do you think you next steps are. Any plan bs?

JZ, thanks for making this thread!

I know someone who applied for July 2011 intake, and waitlisted in March.
He was invited to another interview held in Fonty.
I haven't heard his result afterwards, but is this the regular process for waitlisters to be accepted?
If anyone has heard this kind of process, please give us some input.

hi everyone.

first post in this forum. rec'd w/l on 28th almost at the end of day, fonty time. it was looking more n more ominous as the clock ticked on.

agree with JZ, the good news is that there should not be many of us, but the bad news is there is no way to predict the movement off the list.
