Hi,
My name is Paolo and I would really appreciate if you could evaluate my profile and that of my girlfriend, Giorgia. We are planning to apply for Insead sep 2016 intake together.
Here a summary of my Profile:
Age: 30
Nationality: Italian
Academic background:
-Bachelor in Financial Markets at Bocconi University (final score 97/110)
-Master of Science in Management at Bocconi University (final score 103/110)
Professional experience:
-3 years in PwC corporate Finance as Consultant in Milan
-2 years in an international consulting firm (no big name) focused on Life Science and Energy as a Senior Consultant (all around Europe)
International experience:
During studies:
-Erasmus internship in Sweden (4 months)
-Working experience in Spain while at (3 months)
Working
-Projects in Belgium, UK, Netherland
GMAT score:
1° attempt: deleted at the test center but recovered (still waiting the results). More or less it should be 630 (V36, Q42, IR 6 AWA do not know)
2° attempt 690 (V38, Q46, AWA 4.5, IR 1)
As you can imagine I have decided to recover my previous score because I was worried about my IR result in the 2° attempt (1). It surprised me a lot since previously I have always scored between 6 and 7.

2° attempt 680 (V38, Q44, IR 6 AWA 3.5)
In general I would appreciate if you could evaluate the chances for each of us for being accepted at INSEAD. In particular, I have the following concerns:
Me:
-Should I worry for my last IR score or it does not matter? Considering also that in the first attempt I got 6…
Giorgia:
-Is it normal getting 2 different overall scores with the same V and Q scores? Should she retake the GMAT or could be sufficient the score?
-The AWA scores (before 4 and 3.5) are below the average. Is this an issue even though Giorgia graduated in English?
Thank you a lot in advance for your feedback.
Cheers
Paolo, Giorgia,
Thank you for the detailed information. Its great that you are trying to go to school together, so let's do whatever we can to help you get there!
-Should I worry for my last IR score or it does not matter? Considering also that in the first attempt I got 6…
The IR score is important, though it isn't the most important data point. Your GMAT score is below the median for INSEAD, though not very far below and your GPA at Bocconi is very good.
Giorgia:
-Is it normal getting 2 different overall scores with the same V and Q scores? Should she retake the GMAT or could be sufficient the score?
Yes, this happens. You are on the border of wanting to retake it. I would want to discuss the rest of your profile with both of you in more detail before advising. If you have the time, retaking is a good idea, but I have some questions first (below).
-The AWA scores (before 4 and 3.5) are below the average. Is this an issue even though Giorgia graduated in English?
This will hurt the application, but only slightly. The raw Q/V is more important here than than AWA
Overall you have good profiles to apply to INSEAD and if you have a great application you should have a good chance of getting interview invites.
How have you each performed at work relative to peers? Would you say top 5%, 10%, 20% etc?
What extra-curricular activities are you involved in? Leadership roles in those?
What do you each want to do after business school?
Are you applying to other schools besides INSEAD?
I work with a lot of consultants (I'm a former consultant myself) and I would be happy to talk with you about how I can help you both during the process. Send me an email to discuss further
