Hi,
I am looking to apply for fall 2009. Here are my credentials:
GMAT - 660
5 years work experience(technology consulting mainly)
Undergrad in Computer science
Masters in Computer engineering
I am looking to mainly specialize in International Business or MArketing. I am planning to apply for a full time MBA for international business. Do i have a chance of making it to the top 10 schools for international business? It looks like Thunderbird which is ranked first for International Business has a GMAT requirement of just around 610. Will I be able to make it there? What about the International Business program in other schools like Wharton or Columbia or Berkeley? Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
What are my chances of making a part time MBA in the top 20 schools?
Thanks
Bharath
Hi Bharath-
I'm going for Intl B myself. My takes on your candidacy:
I respectfully would say your GMAT is a bit low for Wharton, Columbia, or Berkeley. I have seen people with similar profiles (Indian, IT) with GMAT scores in the high 700's get rejected from those schools. However depending on your GPA at those schools (where did you go ug / for your masters?) and your extra curriculars you definitely have a shot at some of the strictly-IB schools like Thunderbird or Moore (u of south carolina). But if you go to either of those 2, I suggest you be 100% sure you want to do IB, and that you know a language besides english or 2/ have some int'l experience. The placement rates out of those 2 schools aren't the greatest and from my research its generally because people with absolutely no intl experience/other languages go there and suddenly expect to be magically transformed into this worldly traveler. Since the school is only focused on IB, they don't have much of a backup. Therefore I would also look at schools like UTexas, UIndiana, Michigan State and Temple that have int'l reps but also are well known for other things.
As always just my 2 cents.
