I would appreciate it if someone would help me understand my gmat practise scores.

Yesterday i took an online practise test by veritas prep and i score a 620.I got 23 in verbal and 22 right in quant.
Today i took a test by gmat prep got 26 right in verbal an 22 right in quant.
However, my score on gmat prep was 490

How come? i really dont understand why such nearly similar scores would give totally different overall scores.

I'm no GMAT expert, but I'll reply based on my own experience.

The type of questions you answer correctly matters. The higher amount of more difficult (700 Level) questions you get correct the higher your score will be. I am pretty sure that the GMAT prep shows the difficulty of questions that you answer correctly and incorrectly.

Also, GMAT Prep and Veritas Prep are two different tests. It's entirely possible that they score differently.

Expert's post
the scaled scores (22, 29, etc) convert to the 800 score scale in a way that is abmiguous at best. the GMAC (the body that administers the GMAT) doesn't release their scoring algorithm to anyone outside, including 3rd party test preps. As such, scores you get from different test schools aren't directly comparable.

Keep calm, GMAT on!

The 33 could be out of 35 possible questions and be the highest score in the class, or it could be out of 100 possible points and be the lowest score, or anywhere in between. The score that is given is called a raw score.
