Interview Question [#permalink] New post 10 Oct 2004, 23:08
Hi-

I just signed up for the Chicago interview on 11/13 but I was wondering if I should have signed up to have it here in the Seattle area. I am still able to cancel the interview in Chicago and reschedule it so I do it here. Does it make a difference where it is held? Or does it give me a leg up if I go to Chicago to do the interview? Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks!

I know the official stance of most admissions comittees is that it doesn't matter where you interview.

That being said, I spoke to a current student of a school I'm looking at, and he told me to interview at the school as it is advantageous. He didn't tell me what the advantage was, but I think the advantage comes from interviewing with a student rather than an alumni.

So, I guess it depends on who you believe. Most of the schools I'm applying to are relatively close in proximity; so, it's not much of a challenge to go to the schools for an interview. Personally, I wouldn't be willing to fly cross country for the interview even if it gave me a slight advantage.

Good Luck!

Visiting the school for the interview helps give you a much better feel for the school itself. Often times you can relay what you learned to the adcomm vis-a-vis the essays. It shows a commitment to that school and shows that you are merely applying as an afterthought.
