if they say business casual, I probably wouldn't wear a suit. I would either wear the suit jacket without tie, or wear a tie without the suit jacket, depending on which one you want.

I actually had a conversation with an adcom member about the dress code for interviews. Her words were: when we tell you that the dress code is business casual, we really mean it. People show up wearing suits and ties but they don't need to do that. Doing so doesn't give them any extra points, you know?

I hope this answers your question :)

Good point.

I think it might even help you if you come in a nice shirt tucked into nice pants unlike all the other candidates that come in a suit. You'll stand out in a good way.

I generally do that to stand out (in a good way). If there is no strict dress code (i.e. IB/MC infosessions/interviews) or if they say business casual, I generally wear a nice shirt/pants combo, maybe with a tie, just to be different. It's gotten me in the door quite a few times.

Just for fun... if I get into school, I might wear a bowtie to these events. :)

Not all of them. Just 1-2 I don't really care about and see the reactions.

I'm really tempted to just go to some IB/MC events and be "different"... just to see their reactions too.

Not sure whether a "different" dress code would get you with MC folks, not to talk about IB, but I am looking forward to your feedback :)
